This island country consists of 100 islands in the Indian ocean, two-thirds of which are uninhabited. Most of Seychelles' population live on the island of Mahé and have a high standard of living. Most of the country's GDP comes from tourism and hosts hundreds of thousands of people a year. In 1977 Albert René took the country over by military coup with his party People's Progressive Front (SPPF), and he runs the party as a one-party socialist state through 1993. René then opened the government to multiparty democracy, winning elections until 2004. James Michel took over in 2005 and was re-elected in 2011 and 2015.
